SATELITE TOWN RING ROAD (STRR):
Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) plans to develop a
Satellite Town Ring Road, which covers 284 km connecting important satellite towns like
Devanahalli, Dobbuspet, Magadi, Ramanagara, Kanakapura, Anekal, Hoskte and
Doddaballapura. The road would be an 8-lane road, including two service lanes. If you
see the development around the existing Outer Ring Road compared to a few years
back, the quantum of development is mind boggling. This precedence is the main USP
of this property. Development is expected to be on either side of the STRR which will
change the status of the property. This is expected take shape in 5 years time.
IIM-Bangalore second campus to come up in Anekal Taluk (Jigani hobli)
The Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) will soon open
its second campus at Mahanthalingapura in Anekal taluk (Jigani hobli). The 38-year old
B-school's new campus will host IIM-B's proposed incubation centre aimed at
encouraging entrepreneurship besides executive education programmes.
110 acres of land has been sanctioned for the second campus of IIM-B at which will be
the hub of future expansion activities of the B-school.
Speaking on its decision of not opening its campus in another state, Pankaj Chandra,
IIM-B director, said, "IIM-B is strongly embedded in Karnataka as we believe we can
add value when we are in one place. Many chief ministers have invited us to set up
campuses in their states but we feel that Karnataka is an exciting place to be and having
a campus in Bangalore is good for our economy. Split campuses bring with them the
problem of splitting resources, especially faculty.”
He further added that at least two more months will be required to shape up the plan
for the new campus, "The new campus will be developed keeping in mind the institute's
vision and growth plans for the next 50-100 years. We will definitely be adding more
programmes, students and faculty at the new campus. There will be an extensive
entrepreneurship activity which will rejuvenate the economy of the state."
Anekal is a taluk of Bangalore district. It lies in the southern part of the Bangalore
metropolitan area around 40 kilometres from downtown Bangalore. It is on its way
to become the hub of management education. Management Development Institute-
Gurgaon will open a new campuson a 50-acre land next to the IIM-B. Alliance University,
Karnataka's first private university has plans to expand its operations over a 105-acre
campus.
