Om Sharma, a teenage social entrepreneur and a class 12 student at The International School Bangalore, is making waves with his social initiatives to battle the problem of malnutrition. In India, it is approximated that 1 in every five children suffers from malnutrition. To improve this situation, Om started Project Aahaar and MeraSeb.
Project Aahaar aims to raise awareness about the essentials of nutrition in disadvantaged government schools. Om says, “I use methods like mnemonic devices to make my sessions interactive”. He has achieved an incredible feat by founding NGO since he has already impacted the lives of over 10, 000 children. He was ecstatic when he described how his recent partnership efforts would allow his program to reach 23, 000 schools by the end of 2022. Complementing Project Aahaar, Om has also launched another NGO, MeraSeb. This venture raises funds to buy healthy and nutritious food to be distributed in disadvantaged communities. Under this NGO, Om has led a team of forty volunteers to reach over 3, 000 children.
As a teenager, Om has already become a driver for social change. He emphasizes that this is just the beginning of the journey for him and that he hopes to use his college education to develop these ventures further.
